Matt Alden has a secret. Alden is not his real last name. It’s a stage name. And a radio name. And almost a porn name, but he didn’t make it past the callbacks.
Matt`s real last name is Dykes. Yep. Dykes. As in those things that stop water, or as in plural lesbians.
When Matt was three, he started to do comedy for the family. And then he just didn’t stop. No matter how much they pleaded. This led to Matt laughing his way through school where he was told “You need to stop fooling around or you’ll never be ready for the real world.” It was true. Matt still can’t tie his shoes or do his taxes but he was smart enough to keep creating fantasy worlds to play in. And playing pretend is how he makes a living. Those teachers were nimrods.
He has written and performed in award-winning plays. He considers TV a poor man’s version of theatre but admits its pretty fun to do. A co-founder of the sketch troupe Blacklisted, Matt took the position of showrunner and head writer on the show. Other people wanted those positions but Matt just TOOK them yelling… “You see these? These are mine now!”
Realizing that it was just a lot of extra work, everyone else said “okay,” and then laughed at his rising stress levels.
Matt’s past is filled with many jobs including being a mascot, hosting gerbil racing and being a late night DJ on an all 80’s radio station. No, really. And those are just a few. He has also written a kids musical, acted in various TV shows and formed the troupe `The Kidprovisors`. You can see him play most nights in the award-winning improv troupes Die-Nasty and Rapid Fire Theatre.
When it comes to listing all the plays, awards and achievements Matt says, “nobody cares about the [blankin'] details but my Mum. Leave it off.” So we did. And his Mum is not happy about it.
Matt is currently creating many new and fun shows including a spin off from Nuts featuring our two favourite characters Delmer and Marta. Be sure to keep your eyes out for his new show on SuperChannel (Still coming up with the name). Seriously…the guy is on a roll.
